Too Good, Too Bad: The Best and Worst of Super Eagles against Cameroon

In the wake of his explosive 2020-21 campaign with Leicester City, a lot was expected from the 24-year-old.
Iheanacho not only played a key role in the Foxes’ FA Cup triumph, he beat Jamie Vardy to the club’s top-scorer's&nbsp;prize with 19 goals to his credit.

Against Cameroon, the former Manchester City wonderkid&nbsp;was a shadow of his old self as he failed to replicate the form that made him a fans&nbsp;favourite at the King Power Stadium.

With the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations around the corner, the forward must prove he deserves a place in Gernot Rohr’s squad. Otherwise, he could be axed from the team last it happened at Egypt 2019.

Too Bad: Kelechi Iheanacho

After a below-par performance in the first friendly against the Indomitable Lions – where he missed clear-cut chances - the Nantes man stepped up in the second game.
Due to the unavailability of Jamilu Collins due to injury, the winger was drafted to the left-back position.

He not only held sway in an unfamiliar role, but he also ensured that the Super Eagles kept a clean sheet against the five-time African champions.

In case of any crisis in the backline during the World Cup qualifiers and next year's Afcon, Gernot Rohr certainly has a backup in the pint-sized player.

Too Good: Moses Simon

The Genk forward was one of the biggest flops in Nigeria’s June friendlies against Toni Conceicao’s men.
Many had thought that with the absence of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, the Genk man would cement his place in the Rohr’s starting XI. 
 
However, that was not the case as he squandered the few&nbsp;chances that came his way in Austria.

It appears that he can’t seem to get going in the green and white jersey, and that could cost him a place in Cameroon 2021.

Too Bad: Paul Onuachu

By all standard, the Leicester City star was one of Nigeria’s top performers in Austria as he made his presence felt in the middle.
Although he wasn't&nbsp;quite as dominant in the second game, &nbsp;he still had a&nbsp;pleasing outing.

Barring any injury worries, it is safe to say that Ndidi’s place in the Super Eagles’ Afcon squad is all but guaranteed.

Too Good: Wilfred Ndidi

Many people would argue that the Kano Pillars has a way of impressing on the big stage, but going by his displays against Cameroon, he has not done enough to merit an Afcon place.
Although he was a second-half substitute in the first encounter, Musa was handed a place in the starting XI on Tuesday.

His presence was not felt upfront as he was finally subbed off for Anayo Iwuala in the 76th minute.

Should he eventually make Rohr’s squad, he could end up becoming a non-playing captain like Stephen Keshi (Tunisia 1994) and Joseph Yobo (Afcon 2013).

Too Bad: Ahmed Musa

A barrage of criticism&nbsp;greeted the Everton star’s insipid display in the 1-0 defeat in the first match.
In the second outing, he stepped up a bit to show his class in the fixture that ended on a no winner, no vanquished note. 
 
Iwobi linked play effectively and pushed forward to press in the opposition’s defensive third.

If he continues with this kind of displays, he will not only maintain his place in the Super Eagles at 2021 Afcon, he would also be one of the players to watch out for.
