Ranking Iheanacho & Nigeria’s greatest Community Shield winners

<p>A two-time winner with Arsenal, Iwobi was part of the side that clinched the Community Shield in 2015 and 2017.</p>
<p>The second success—coming months after the Gunners’ FA Cup triumph—was his final silverware at Arsenal; the club would miss out on the Europa League later that term, before the midfielder was sold to Everton.</p>

<p>The left-back played 90 minutes as Chelsea secured only their second&nbsp;Community Shield success over Manchester United at the old Wembley in 2000.</p>
<p>Success for Babayaro’s Blues saw them end the West London side’s 45-year wait for the honour having won their first in 1955.</p>

<p>Defeat for the Manchester giants was their third successive loss after twin losses to Arsenal in the two preceding years, and Babayaro played in the somewhat unexpected win over the Premier League champions.</p>

<p>The hero on Saturday, as Leicester City downed Manchester City 1-0 in the Community Shield final, Iheanacho stepped off the bench to make the difference for the Foxes.</p>
<p>He surely had a point to prove against the club who once let him go, particularly after Leicester coach Brendan Rodgers opted to start Jamie Vardy and then turned to Patson Daka when the Foxes sought a goal.</p>

<p>Iheanacho capitalised on a Nathan Ake error to win a penalty for City late on, and then duly converted the spotkick to give the Foxes the silverware.</p>

Kelechi Iheanacho

<p>Another new Nigeria winner on Saturday, Ndidi played a key role in the heart of the park for the Foxes as the FA Cup holders dispatched the Premier League champions.</p>
<p>He was influential as the Foxes kept City at bay, and made one critical intervention to put pressure on Riyad Mahrez when the Algeria forward burst through on goal.</p>

<p>His performance again raises questions about why one of Europe’s biggest clubs haven’t moved for the anchorman.</p>

<p>So decorated during his decade-long stint with Chelsea, Mikel won all there is to win in the English game.</p>
<p>In comparison to the Premier League, the Champions League, the FA Cup and the Europa League, the Community Shield may not be so important, but the Nigeria midfielder nonetheless added this honour to his collection in 2009.</p>

<p>He played 65 minutes on that occasion as Chelsea defeated Manchester United 4-1 on penalties following a 2-2 draw.</p>

<p>Kanu’s performance in the 1999 Charity Shield saw him score from the spot to level, before setting up Ray Parlour’s winning strike as Arsenal came from behind to defeat Manchester United at the Millennium Stadium.</p>
<p>Deservedly, the striker was named Man of the Match after an incredible individual showing to help the Gunners reverse Dwight Yorke’s 36th-minute strike in Cardiff.</p>

<p>After Nicolas Anelka’s departure, the Nigerian needed to start the campaign on a positive note, and he did just that in the season’s curtain-raiser.</p>

<p>Kanu went on to have his most prolific campaign in English football in 1999/00, scoring 12 league strikes in 31 appearances.</p>
