Maldini, Cruyff, Kluivert & the most famous father-sons in football

Arsenal's record signing comes from a footballing family, with father Pierre Aubameyang featuring 80 times for Gabon between 1985 and 1998 while playing for various clubs in France. All three of Pierre's sons are Gabon internationals, with Catalina and Willy both playing in defence and Pierre-Emerick regarded as one of the world's best forwards.

PIERRE & PIERRE-EMERICK AUBAMEYANG

An Arsenal legend who played in the 1997-98 Premier League winning side, Ian Wright played 33 times for England. His eldest son Shaun, who he adopted with his wife at the age of eight, picked up three more caps than his father and played for Manchester City and Chelsea, while Bradley also played for City and now is one of the biggest names in Major League Soccer, twice winning the Golden Boot.

Notably, the only father and son to play in the same international fixture, Arnor and Eidur Gudjohnsen never actually were on the field at the same time as the younger family member came on as a substitute for his father against Estonia in 1996. Both are extremely popular in their home country and have each been named as the Icelandic Sportsperson of the Year.

ARNOR & EIDUR GUDJOHNSEN

Defender Jean Djorkaeff was part of the France squad at the 1966 World Cup and spent time at both PSG and Marseille during his club career. His son Youri was a World Cup winner in 1998 with France and then was on the winning side at Euro 2000. The younger Djorkaeff also lined out for PSG, winning the Cup Winners' Cup with the Paris club before leaving for Inter, where he won the UEFA Cup.

JEAN & YOURI DJORKAEFF

Danny Blind is one of Ajax's most successful players, having won all three major European competitions during a 13-season spell in Amsterdam. He went on to become the club's boss and then to manage the Netherlands international team, where son Daley played in defence. Blind Jr won four league titles in the Netherlands before joining Manchester United, where he lifted the Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup. He has since returned to Amsterdam.

A Milan legend, Cesare Maldini won the European Cup in 1963 as well as four Serie A titles during his playing career. As a manager, he also brought success to AC Milan, winning the Cup Winners' Cup and Coppa Italia in 1973. He was posthumously added to the Italian Football Hall of Fame in 2016, four years after son Paolo received the honour. A one-club man, Paolo played over 900 times for AC Milan as well as 126 times for Italy, winning five European Cups along the way and is considered one of the best players of all time.

CESARE & PAOLO MALDINI

The only biological father-and-son pairing to win the Premier League, the Schmeichels are Denmark's greatest goalkeeping dynasty. Peter captained Manchester United to a famous treble in 1999 and won the European Championships with Denmark in 1992. He was named UEFA Goalkeeper of the Year on three occasions. Kasper has spent the last seven seasons at Leicester City, helping them win the Championship in 2014 before making history in 2016 as they won the Premier League.

At the 1994 World Cup, Mazinho was part of the famous "three men and a baby" celebration as Bebeto celebrated the birth of his son. While Bebeto's prodigy Mattheus is a footballer, Mazinho's offspring are much more successful. Bayern Munich star Thiago is a Champions League winner and Spain international while Inter man Rafinha is a Brazil international like his father, and has won the Champions League with Barcelona.

MAZINHO & THIAGO & RAFINHA

Three-time Ballon d'Or winner Johan Cruyff is widely regarded as one of the best players of all time. He is a legend at Ajax, Barcelona and for the Netherlands, while son Jordi had a solid career, lining out for Barcelona and Manchester United as well as the Dutch side. In his later career, he played for Deportivo Alaves, getting them to the UEFA Cup final, where they featured in one of the most entertaining games ever as Liverpool won 5-4 thanks to the golden goal rule.

JOHAN & JORDI CRUYFF

Patrick Kluivert is the third-highest goalscorer for the Netherlands international team, netting 40 times in 79 appearances. He had a similar scoring record at club level with a goal every two games for both Ajax and Barcelona. Justin started brightly at Ajax and his performances for the Dutch giants earned a move to Roma.

Zinedine Zidane was one of the greatest players of his generation, having inspired France, Juventus and Real Madrid to success during the 1990s and 2000s. The mercurial playmaker then made the transition to coaching at Madrid, where he delivered three Champions League titles in a row. It is fair to say he casts a long shadow for his son Luca, who is also at the Santiago Bernabeu. However, direct comparisons are impossible, since Luca is a goalkeeper. Zidane's sons Enzo, Theo and Elyaz are also footballers, having come through the Madrid academy.
