While defensively they looked solid except for a brief minute which led to Jonathan Kodjia's goal, Bafana never really threatened Ivory Coast with their pragmatic approach.&nbsp;

Nonetheless, Goal looks back at some interesting stats from the game.&nbsp;

Bafana learn a vital lesson 

Bafana failed to register a single shot on target in 90 minutes, while they had three off target.
On the other hand, Ivory Coast had six shots in total, three on target and another three off target.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Baxter's men lacking upfront 

Despite failing to really assert their authority on the game, the Southern Africans were better when it came to passing. They enjoyed a passing success of 75.3% while the Ivorians managed just 73.6%.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Bafana slicker with the passing 

The Elephants made a total of 11 tackles winning 64%. This is in stark contrast to Bafana who made 18 tackles but won just 44%.&nbsp;

Ivory Coast wanted it more 

South Africa's Ronwen Williams was clearly the difference on the day and the busier of the two keepers as he made two fantastic saves.
Williams kept out Kodjia's shot from point-blank range and then denied Nicolas Pepe's free-kick with a stunning fingertip save late on.&nbsp;

Although Ivory Coast had far fewer touches of the ball, it is what you do with it that counts.&nbsp;
The West African's had just 485 touches, which is 67 less than Bafana's 552. Of that, Ivory Coast had a touch success of 69% while Bafana boasted a touch success of 74%.&nbsp;

Ivory Coast have the Midas Touch 

While Ivory Coast moved level with Morocco on three points, for Bafana it's back to the drawing board.
Next up is a clash against Namibia and Bafana will be keen to register their first three points, keeping their hopes of progression alive.&nbsp;
