Euro 2020 Power Rankings: France, Portugal and England all fall as Belgium take top spot

The only team to have been eliminated after two matches, North Macedonia have at least scored in both of their games so far, and on another occasion could easily have picked up a point or two.
They could still end their competition on a high, with their matchday three opponents, the Netherlands, already assured of top spot in Group C and likely to rotate some of their star names out of the lineup.

North Macedonia | Last time: 24th

Finland's historic victory over Denmark left them in a great position to progress into the knockout rounds, but their failure to beat Russia now leaves the debutants in a precarious position.
To have a chance of qualifying they will likely have to take at least a point off Belgium in their final Group B encounter. Anything less and the Nordic minnows may be packing their bags for an early flight home.

Finland | Last time: 20th

Despite their superb draw against favourites France, Hungary's hopes of progession still look slim as they aim to navigate their way through the 'Group of Death'.
They now have to leave their boisterous home crowd in Budapest behind and travel to Munich for their final group game, where they know they must beat a buoyant Germany side to have any chance of qualifying for the last 16.&nbsp;

Hungary | Last time: 23rd

Undoubtedly the biggest disappointments of the competition so far, Turkey have gone from being many people's 'dark horses' to knowing that a win in their final group game might not even be enough to carry them through.
Against both Italy and Wales, the youngest squad in the competition have been made to look hopelessly naive at times, and a huge improvement is required against Switzerland for them to have any hope of making it through.

Turkey | Last time: 13th

Scotland's celebrations at full-time against England were understandable having given their great rivals a huge scare on their own ground, but that 0-0 draw will only count for anything if Steve Clarke's side back it up with a win against Croatia.
They will play that match in front of what will likely be a passionate home support in Glasgow, and if they can repeat their performance from Friday, then they still have a real shot of making it into the knockout rounds.

Scotland | Last time: 22nd

Having beaten Poland on matchday one, Slovakia came back down to earth with a bump, despite only being edged out by a single Emil Forsberg penalty against Sweden.
That means they will, in all likelihood, need to take a point off a Spain side which will be desperate for victory in Seville, and though that is not beyond the realms of possibility given the performances of the two teams so far, Slovakia will still kick-off as underdogs.

Slovakia | Last time: 17th

It wasn't pretty, but Russia edged themselves to victory over Finland, and now know a point in their final Group B game against Denmark should be enough to see them through.
That is unlikely to be straighforward, however, and it is likely that Stanislav Cherchesov's side will need to raise their game again to be sure of making the knockout rounds.

Russia | Last time: 21st

Croatia may have been unfortunate with the penalty decision given against them during their draw with the Czech Republic, but in truth they did little at Hampden Park to suggest they should have won the game.
The 2018 World Cup finalists look a far cry from that side of just three years ago, and failure to beat Scotland on matchday three will see them bow out at the first hurdle this time around.

Croatia | Last time: 14th

Having already picked up a valuable three points, Austria can be forgiven for not going at the Netherlands full throttle, but they must still be disappointed with how they performed in Amsterdam.
Franco Foda's side offered hardly anything going forward, and they now must lift themselves for what looks to be pretty much a knockout clash against Ukraine on Monday.

Austria | Last time: 15th

They might be one of three teams left in the competition not to have picked up a point, but there is a not wholly unpredictable combination of results which could see Denmark&nbsp;still finish second in Group B.
Victory over Russia is a must, and their fans must hope that news of Christian Eriksen being discharged from hospital is the boost the players need to lift themselves and edge into the knockout rounds.

Denmark | Last time: 11th

Switzerland rarely excite at major tournaments, but the 2021 version of Vladimir Petkovic's side have taken that to another level this time around.
Their creator-in-chief, Xherdan Shaqiri, has struggled to make any impact, and yet a win over Turkey on Sunday will likely be enough to carry them into the knockout rounds.

Switzerland | Last time: 12th

They may only have one point from two games, but Poland will take confidence from the way they battled back to secure a draw against Spain while also getting Robert Lewandowski on the scoresheet.
They still need to beat an obdurate Sweden team to have any hope of progressing, but after their opening defeat to Slovakia, they at least have given themselves a shot at redemption.

Poland | Last time: 19th

Ukraine have impressed a fair few onlookers with their performances so far in Group C, with Andriy Shevchenko's side certainly a team most will want to avoid in the knockout stages.
They, of course, need to get there first, with a draw against Austria on Monday set to be&nbsp;enough for them to take second place in Group C.

Ukraine | Last time: 16th

After a slow start to the tournament, Wales came to life against Turkey, with star men Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey once more pulling the strings like it is 2016 all over again.
It would take an unforseen set of results for them not to qualify from Group A, and with their key players beginning to fire, another deep run might not be beyond them.

Wales | Last time: 18th

Two games, two draws for Luis Enrique's side, who despite lots of nice passing have lacked the cutting edge required at tournaments when you want to go deep into the tournament.
The talent that La Roja possess means they are still favourites to make it out of Group E ahead of their final match against Slovakia, though how much further they go must now be questioned.

Spain | Last time: 7th

Czech Republic head to Wembley on Tuesday knowing a draw against England will be enough for them to finish top of Group D after two encouraging performances thus far.
In Patrik Schick, they have one of the tournament's in-form forwards, and that run to the quarter-finals that this humble power-ranker predicted for them pre-tournament is now not looking too far-fetched.

Czech Republic | Last time: 9th

Alexander Isak apart, Sweden are not particularly fun to watch, but there is no question that they are getting the job done in Group E.
They sit top of the table on four points from two games, and know a point against Poland in their final match will be enough to carry them through into the last 16.

Sweden | Last time: 10th

Though some of the hysteria surrounding England's performance against Scotland has been overblown somewhat, there is no question that, overall, their young squad has&nbsp;underwhelmed so far.
All that will be forgotten, though, if they sweep Czech Republic aside to top the group on Tuesday, though Gareth Southgate will likely have to show a little more adventure in his tactics if that is to happen.

England | Last time: 5th

Cristiano Ronaldo certainly looks in the mood to help Portugal defend their crown, but their defensive performance against Germany poses serious questions as to their pre-tournament billing as one of the favourites.
Beating France in their final Group F game would, of course, switch the narrative back in the opposite direction once more, but right now there looks to be a handful of more complete sides when compared with the Seleccao.

Portugal | Last time: 3rd

Germany fans must have feared the worst when their side fell behind early on against Portugal, but the way in which they roared back to win 4-2 in Munich must give them&nbsp;hope that a deep run is not beyond Joachim Low's team.
Few teams will give Robin Gosens the same amount of space as their opponents on Saturday, but the confidence that win will have given the rest of the players cannot be underestimated as they aim to claim top spot with a win over Hungary later this week.

Germany | Last time: 8th

Are the Netherlands the best team at Euro 2020? Absolutely not.
But while others toil, the Oranje are the only team to have secured top spot in their group after just two games, and know that they will not play another group winner until the semi-finals at the earliest.

That is not to say that Frank de Boer's team will make it that far, but things are looking good for them at this moment.

Netherlands | Last time: 6th

Undoubtedly the most impressive performers across&nbsp;the first two matchdays, Italy have lifted themselves from potential semi-finalists to bonafide challengers for the title.
It remains to be seen how they fare when faced with a tougher opponent than either Turkey or Switzerland, particularly once they leave Rome following&nbsp;the group stages, but right now Roberto Mancini's side look in ominous mood.

Italy | Last time: 4th

France's progress may have been checked by their failure to beat Hungary on Saturday, but they still possess the strongest squad in the competition and undoubtedly have the highest ceiling in terms of performance level.
Didier Deschamps still needs to coax that out of them, starting with Wednesday's clash with Portugal, but you would still be hard pressed to bet against the World Cup holders lifting yet another trophy come July 11.

France | Last time: 1st

Belgium may have some issues in defence that need ironing out, but the ominous way in which they brought Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard off the bench to secure a come-from-behind win against Denmark will have sent shockwaves through the other favourites.
De Bruyne certainly seems to be feeling no ill effects from the injury he picked up in the Champions League final, and as the most complete footballer in the competition, he could be the difference between Belgium again falling short and finally winning their first major tournament.

Belgium | Last time: 2nd
