Wydad Casablanca

Kaizer Chiefs’ double-header with Simba is one of the toughest to predict.
Certainly, the Amakhosi have the higher profile, perhaps the more prominent players, and a greater pedigree than Simba, but the Tanzanian side may have the edge when it comes to progressing to the semi-final.

They will fear no one, and having topped their group ahead of Al-Ahly, will be confident of taking another major scalp in the Caf Champions League.

Simba

The Tunisian giants were influential in eliminating SC Zamalek during the group stage, and will back themselves to reach the final four at the expense of CR Belouizdad.
It’s arguably the most favourable draw Esperance could have got, and players such as Hamdou Elhouni, Raouf Benguit and Taha Yassine Khenissi should see them through to the semis.

Esperance

Ahly have got a trickier draw than they would have liked after being pitted against Mamelodi Sundowns in the quarter-final.
The Brazilians have (relatively) recent experience of winning the competition, although it was current Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane who masterminded their finest hour on the grandest stage.

He will know Sundowns inside and out, and could ensure Ahly have the edge when they face off with the South African champions in a double-header that will be watched across the continent.

Al-Ahly

Defeated Confederation Cup finalists last time around, Pyramids will be hoping to go one step further this time around.
They won’t have it all their own way against Nigeria’s Enyimba, who have won four out of four home games in the competition this year and defeated Orlando Pirates in their last group game.

However, the Egyptians have quality in the likes of Eric Traore, John Antwi and Abdallah El Said, and may have too much for the People’s Elephant.

Pyramids

Raja have been handed a tough quarter-final draw—they must face Orlando Pirates—but they’re still favourites to go the distance.
They were dominant in the group stage—winning all six of their group games, scoring 13 and not conceding a single goal—and have been the outstanding team in the competition so far.

Pirates, as they demonstrated in Sunday’s 3-0 defeat by Mamelodi Sundowns, have some vulnerabilities, and may struggle to cope with Soufiane Rahimi et al.

Raja Casablanca

After missing out on some tougher potential draws, both Coton Sport and ASC Jaraaf will be confident that a pathway is opening up to the semi-finals.
Coton flexed their offensive muscles with an eye-catching group-stage victory over NAPSA Stars of Zambia—they were the second highest goalscorers of the entire group stage—while their 2-0 victory over reigning champions RS Berkane proved their quality in the toughest games.

Coton Sport

The only all-North African clash in the Confederation Cup puts Algeria’s JS Kabylie against CS Sfaxien of Tunisia.
It’s a tough one to call, with both sides having progressed through the group stages unbeaten.

While JSK were group winners, Sfaxien will be confident of their chances of progression after eliminating local rivals Etoile du Sahel in the group stage.

Three-time champions Sfaxien held their illustrious rivals 0-0 and 2-2, and will fancy their chances of progression, although they have a poor recent record against Algerian sides.
