Afcon 2019: Madagascar v Nigeria Player Ratings - Super Eagles abysmal in Alexandria

A waste of a substitution when the team was chasing a goal and was made too late to affect the game.&nbsp;

Moses Simon: N/A

A substitution that was too late. Showed some neat touches, but the game was long lost by that point.

Alex Iwobi: 4/10

Endured a torrid opening 10 minutes after coming on, but settled in afterward and looked the brightest player on the pitch. Or, at least, the only one forcing the issue.

Wilfred Ndidi: 5/10

Needed too many touches to get the ball under control. Struggled to hold off or turn his marker and was slow to react to potentially beneficial situations. Did not once test the opposing keeper.

Odion Ighalo: 2.5/10

Constantly tried to make something happen with his direct running, but looks well short of his physical best. Tried too hard and too much, often to the detriment of the collective.

Samuel Kalu: 4/10

An ineffectual showing. Did nothing to threaten the Malagasy backline, either in terms of runs with the ball or without. Stayed much too wide and the game passed him by.

Ahmed Musa: 2.5/10

Strong contender for his worst ever performance in a Nigeria shirt. Dropped deep needlessly and so was unable to offer a reliable link to the attack. No leadership, no guile and was caught in possession on a number of occasions.

John Obi Mikel: 2/10

Apart from his role in Madagascar's opener, he was virtually anonymous for the remainder of the game. Misused in the side, in a role that marks him out as neither fish nor fowl.

John Ogu: 3/10

Typical battling performance. Was wasteful with a handful of free kicks. Not the most inventive passer, and it shows in every game he plays. However, his energy is valuable.

Oghenekaro Etebo: 5.5/10

He has yet to hit the heights of the opening game and was slow to get forward in support, especially in the first half. Was too often deeper than he should have been when the team had established possession. He was possibly inhibited by the player ahead of him.

Ola Aina: 4/10

A horrendous error gifted Madagascar an opener, and he never recovered. His normally reliable distribution and calmness on the ball was not in evidence today.

Leon Balogun: 2/10

An average showing: he was bypassed on a couple of occasions, and looked short of rhythm having sat out the previous game.

 William Troost-Ekong: 5/10

As can be expected for a player out of position, he was tentative on the ball and offered no outlet nor the belief that he could provide a telling contribution. Carried out his defensive responsibilities well enough.

Chidozie Awaziem: 4/10

Might have reacted quicker for Madagascar's second, and was hopelessly exposed for the first but could have reacted with a bit more composure. He had little else to do in the match.

Ikechukwu Ezenwa: 4/10
