India are set to take on Bangladesh in a Group E clash in the second round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2023 AFC Asian Cup joint qualifiers on Monday. The two sides have faced each other thrice in the last decade but none of them have resulted in a win for neither teams.
The last time India defeated Bangladesh was in the 2009 SAFF Championship. Under Sukhwinder Singh's coaching, India (who had sent an U23 team) defeated them 1-0 in the semifinals.
It was in 2007 Nehru Cup under Bob Houghton that the senior India team last defeated Bangladesh 1-0 with a goal from Bhaichung Bhutia.
As the qualifiers resumed in June, with a 10 man India going down 1-0 to Qatar and Bangladesh leaving it late to nick a point against Afghanistan on Thursday, Goal takes a look at the last three encounters.
